The following information pertains to our Naturopathic and Acupuncture services. For all other services, please visit the profiles of Zentai’s other practitioners.
Ontario regulations governing Naturopathic Doctors require all new patients to undergo an initial assessment prior to the commencement of any naturopathic treatment. This is to ensure that you receive appropriate care for your particular health situation.
Initial assessments include a detailed intake of your health and family history, occupational history, environmental exposures, and emotional and mental states, as well as a physical exam based on your health concerns.
For pediatric patients, the doctor will undertake a well-child exam.
Any lab tests, if recommended by the doctor, can also be done during the initial assessment. Most test results will be ready by the second visit.
How does a typical naturopathic visit proceed?
The first visit is an initial assessment of 90 minutes in length. It consists of acquiring a detailed patient history in order to most effectively treat the cause of the presenting health complaint(s). A complete physical exam (no gynecological and breast exam is involved) may be performed to further clarify the origin of the complaint and determine overall health. Patient goals and treatment options will be openly discussed to create a co-operative framework for healing.
The second visit is 60 minutes, and involves going over a review of findings from the initial visit and a detailed treatment plan, including naturopathic modalities that are indicated for your specific health concerns and that address your health goals. Treatment protocols generally are comprised of a combination of a few naturopathic modalities, best suited to the individual. These include Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture, Clinical Nutrition/Diet, Botanical Medicine, Homeopathy, and Lifestyle Counseling.
Subsequent visits are 30 minutes long and involve reviewing assessment, implementing treatment protocols, monitoring of patient progress, and patient education.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, can I still come in-person for my appointments?
We like to see patients in-person as being able to observe the non-verbal communications of patients (e.g. body language, posture, etc) is an important part of our practice as naturopathic doctors.
We are open to seeing patients either in-person or for telehealth appointments, based on your preference.
We remain accessible to patients wherever they are through our long-distance health consults by phone and by secure video chat via our online system, Jane.
Credit card information is required upon booking long-distance consultations. We will only charge your card after the consultation.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 48 hours notice for any cancellations of or changes to appointments an hour or longer, and 24 hours notice for appointments less than an hour. Patients who provide less than the required notice or miss their appointment, will be charged the full cost of their appointment.
Where can I park?
Street parking is available on Carlton Street during the following times:
- In front of our clinic (north side of the street): 9am to 4pm
- In front of the church (south side of street): 9am to 3pm
Additional 1hr street parking is available on Homewood Avenue (one street east of Jarvis Street) from 10am to 6pm.
Pay parking lots are located on Jarvis Street (west side, just south of Carlton, beside Ramada Hotel) and Sherbourne Street (east side, just north of Carlton).
What if I’m not sure? Can I see the doctor first without paying?
Yes, our Naturopathic Doctors are happy to meet you for 15 minutes in order to answer your questions about their scope of practice and treatment approaches.
Please keep in mind that this is not a health consultation. The doctor cannot give you any treatment advice without doing a full and proper assessment, which would require 90 minutes.

When booking an appointment for your child, please ensure that the appointment is under your child’s name. This also applies to appointments for adult children (for our purposes, any child 13 years or older).

Do I need a referral from my MD to book an appointment?
You do not need a referral to see our Naturopathic Doctors.
My benefits cover naturopathic services. Do you direct bill?
Yes! We are a registered provider with Telus Health and Sunlife, which means that we can process your health claim immediately with participating insurance companies.
Participating insurance companies include Manulife, Sun Life and Canada Life, and more.
In order for us to process your claim, please come prepared with your Plan ID and Member ID. If you are covered under another person’s insurance plan, please also bring their Member ID and Birth Date information.
